Why I Am A Christian
My name is Hammed Ajiboye. Most people constantly wonder how someone whose name is Hammed is a Christian and not a Muslim. I have my reasons and I want to share some with you here.
1. The Message got me hooked. I couldn't resist the message. The message of a God who loved me so much, He sent His only son to die for me. If I were the only human God created, I’m sure He wouldn't hesitate to send Christ to die for me. How can a skinny kid who constantly wonders at the world and its ways reject the overtures and promises of such a wonderful love letter? How can any man say no to the package of salvation?
2. The influence of Job. I love the story of Job. His faith, stubborn faith, refusal to throw in the towel, and confidence in the God of his salvation. Imagine being afflicted with painful boils from head to toe, losing everything you have in the space of 24 hours, being badgered by ‘wife’ to curse God and enduring false accusations from ‘friends’. I know what it is like to be in pain. But to put up with ridicule and mockery and hold on to faith in such circumstances is all shades of amazing. How Job did it, I don’t know. I’ll definitely ask him at the resurrection after-party.
3. The Appeal of being in a relationship with God. This to my knowledge is why people scoff at Christianity. How, they wonder, how can a mere mortal whose days are numbered at 70 or 80 years claim to have a relationship with God? How can the Lord of all creation fellowship with humans who are like a mist that appears and disappears? But the idea of a relationship was God’s own in the first place. God wants to fellowship with me, he wants to be my friend and comforter. He wants to hold my hands and show and give me treasures in hidden places. How could I refuse such an offer? How can any man say no to this?
These are some of the reasons why I am a Christian.
