Chicken Soup, the Jewish Prozac
Mirah Curzer

My mom always made me a mug of this instant Cup-a-Soup when I was sick, but she did it with love, and long after I could easily have made it for myself. Come to think of it, I’m not sure why she was looking after me, she should have been at work. But she was definitely the one in charge of healing and nurturing, that physician/mother thing I guess.

Despite her having no childhood tradition of it, she also makes an excellent matzo-ball chicken soup at Passover.
