Final Topic Proposal

When the subject of traveling comes up in conversation, the first word that people associate it with will probably not be “controversial,” but a word like “exciting” or “interesting.” I think that there is a way to write about controversy and traveling, but it I think the controversy lies within the destinations people travel to, not traveling in itself. For my future blog assignments, I would like to write about the aspects of traveling that most people do not initially think about. Each week, I would like to focus in on a different, specific locations around the world and inform readers about things beyond tourist destinations. These things would include cultural “do’s and don’ts,” life for the locals of each area, reasons to visit, and current news and controversies (current political news, social problems, anything interesting) going on within each of these locations. Another interesting thing that I could write about would be how safe it is to travel to each location. As a young female, I know that unfortunately there are many places where it would not be safe for me to travel alone. I do not want to promote a narrow-minded or bigoted view of such places, in fact I think it’s important to people to go out and see world, but I think that bringing light to the reality of the situation would also help inform other young women on how to be safe while traveling to certain places.

For each week, I could pick destinations that either I want to travel to, are considered to be the most popular destinations, or even those with the most controversy surrounding them. Ideally I would like to pick locations all over the world that I personally want to go see. If picking places from all over the world is too broad, I could focus in on locations in certain regions (e.g. Europe). I think that by changing the location that I’m writing about every week, it will keep my story from fizzling out.

As far as finding credible sources to include throughout my blog posts, I could use popular online new sources to get information on any current events and in getting news from multiple sources, I can write from an unbiased stand point. For including information on the cultural ways of local people as well as what life for them is like, I can use sources like historical websites and government websites. When talking about the reasons to visit a certain locations, I think that should be subjective. Instead of providing sources on other people talking about why someone should visit a place, I could provide my own reasons for wanting to visit. I would still cite sources to provide further info on these reasons.

To be honest, I am not sure what more I could say, with this only being my topic proposal and all. I think I have pretty much explained what I would like my topics to be about, and in each week’s assignment I would provide more detail and focus in on something specific. At this point I’m really trying to hit that 750 word mark so I guess I’ll talk about why I want to travel. Ever since I was young, my grandma would take me on trips to Hawaii and every summer I would visit my family back in New England. I’ve also been to Italy and Palau, the trips there were two of the best experiences of my life. I grew up with traveling and it is one of things that I feel I am good at. If I can help inform other people of why they should travel, while also planning out which places I want to see, then sure why not.

Well I am roughly 100 words short so I guess I will start naming off some places I want to see: Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, all around Europe, your mom’s house, Iceland, South Africa, areas in the Middle East, areas in Middle Earth, Bali, other areas in Indonesia and Micronesia, India, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Alaska. There are a bunch of other places I want to go to but these are just the ones that popped into my head.

*Insert partial, random, Walt Whitman quote that vaguely relates to topic at hand*

AFOOT and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

Wow, I did not even know that I could add a quote like that^, that’s super cool.
