Mindset & Perspective

Mindset and perspective are to be the base variables to human awareness and evolution.

Mindset comes in many different ways and many different angles it’s not just about the inward and outward mindsets. There are different kinds of mindsets that we can create based on the specific situation we are in. There is a correlation between your mindset and your current state of mind, that is, the current emotional state that you’re in. In order to develop mindset you first look into the current state of mind that you are in and from there you will be able to prescribe a specific mindset.

To set your mindset we first look inward to understand our capacity and capability. We cannot easily have an outward mindset without being able to accept the current state of mind that we are in. Otherwise we would be constantly fighting our current state of being thus creating a mindset that does not coincide with a potentially optimized output. We become limited.

So what does that really mean? To look inward is to self analyze. To look inward is to be able to figure out what current variables are affecting your state of mind. And when we look inward, we begin to grasp the idea of what it is that we are looking forward outwardly. Through this form of introspection we get an idea of what our wants and needs are that help us devise a specific mindset. By looking inward you’re basically trying to figure out what your needs are, what your wants are, and do you really need what you need and do you really want what you want, and here is the kicker, how many of my needs are actually wants. If we think hard enough we will realize that most of our needs are actually wants. So the more inwardly we look while trying to find the right mindset for your situation, the clearer your needs become. That is, what are our basic needs we are trying to meet for this particular situation. Once we figure out these needs we can then create an outward mindset that truly fits our situation.

In general terms, the most commonly used mindsets are growth and fixed mindsets for individuals and inward and outward mindsets around organizational behavior.

Fixed mindset is defined as “people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits.”

Growth mindset is defined as “people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work

Inward mindset is defined as “a focus only on one’s own personal goals and objectives, without consideration for the impact or the results of their behavior on others.”

Outward mindset is defined as “a focus on the objectives and results of the organization as a whole and others.”

As you go through your journey I redefine the inward mindset into a useful tool that is necessary in attaining strong outward results while maintaining equity, empathy, and consideration to your environment. We impact our environment just as our environment heavily impacts us. If we can look inside and develop the right mindset, then we can have a positive effect to our surroundings. Your outward mindset can come in many forms and will have an emotional attachment; relaxed, ashamed, afraid, excited, worried, etc. If we adjust these emotions to meet that present moment and our intended outcome, we can then have a more favorable outward mindset with more relevant results. Our needs become better expressed and our ability to create our own reality becomes better actualized. This builds gratitude that leads to greater core happiness,

As you travel within, the cliché of living in the moment, living in the now, is a greatly applicable during this time. Being present and in the moment is what allows you to really adjust your current feelings. This way you’re not living in the past and reigniting old thoughts that no longer serve you and you’re not living in the future in a reality that has not been created and reacting to future events as if they have already occurred. Another cliché reminds us that it is not the destination it is the journey and through that journey of living in the now we evolve.

One of my favorite mindsets ever is when I put myself in the child-like mindset or the child’s mindset. It is a mindset of pure play, pure creativity, and pure freedom that is far from judgment, self-deprecation, and constantly defined self-worth as we normally do as adults. The childlike mentality is an important mindset through the engagement with your self, freely, openly, and vulnerably. It is through this mindset we can truly unlearn, relearn, and create. This mindset is one of wonder, it is one of awe, and it is free of an analytical dialectic. It allows me to flow through one experience to another concentrating on the action at hand making sure that I am 100% in the moment of what it is that I am doing. During this mindset I tend to feel more and through this feeling I’m able to emotionally understand how each moment in time is impacting those feelings; a great way to navigate change. It is through feelings and emotions that we have long lasting change and not through a constant mental state of analysis that can only sway us away from an optimized result. This allows us to grow our perspective and observe whatever it is we are doing from another angle. This reduces obstacles, discomfort in change, and gives us new pathways towards our many potential solutions.

So when we do something we have to make sure that we are in the right mindset. A new mindset will help us gain new perspectives that will lead us to new results without being anchored to our past or stuck on one potential future outcome. This grounds us in whatever we are trying to do. For that child within, be present and in full and allow yourself to really open up to that child energy, and from there you will be able to do a lot of wonderful and beautiful things that are going to be in the direction of where you want to go. That I promise you!

A few types of mindset

  • Child Mindset — That is the Why curious, the play, the in awe of wonder, lacks judgement of self and others
  • Mindful Mindset — Slow, calm, high intent, outward, about others
  • Active Mindset — Hunter, workout mode, deadline driven, time sensitive, intensity
  • Heart-full Mindset — Feeling your way through thought, feeling change, analysis through heart reaction
  • Adult Mindset — Professional driven, etiquette, right/wrong based, belief based, structured, growth or fixed

Your perceived sky is the limit, so why not enhance that perspective with the right mindset.
