If the interviewer or the organization can give one plausible and rational real life scenario where he/she or they had to solve an algorithm against time, then it justifies the reason for time-racing whiteboard algorithm process. The only such scenario I could think of, is to diffuse a ticking bomb which needs a binary tree inversion logic as an input to stop the clock.
