This article makes it seem like Haber was the first to succeed at making nitrate fertilizer from the nitrogen gas of air. But he wasn’t. Nitrate fertilizer was already being produced at industrial scale, first with the Frank-Caro process and then with the Birkeland-Eyde process. True, the Haber-Bosch process used considerably less energy, but like with most things in science, his improvement was an incremental one.
