Gee, it’s swell to have self-appointed gatekeepers like The Economist to tell me whether an award-winning news photo was actually worthy or not! Maybe you should publish your proprietary formula that crunches photographic impact and newsworthiness (based on whether the person on fire was hurt badly enough for your liking), so we can use it at home. But that might be a little too intellectually challenging for us unwashed masses who think that artistic merit alone happens to matter a hell of a lot.
