XBOX One as XBOX 360 Emulator?

Microsoft says “maybe”.

About two weeks ago there was a conference about Microsoft consoles. The thing is, a Microsoft worker Frank Savage was asked by the audience if there are any plans regarding to support emulation of XBOX 360 games on XBOX One console. Here is the answer (based on source):

There are, but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself.

Such emulation isn’t definitely an easy thing to be done. XBOX 360 has different architecture of its CPU and that’s the main problem — otherwise, there probably wouldn’t be any trouble with backwards compatibility of Microsoft consoles. Note that there are already XBOX 360 emulators for PC.

Will XBOX One support XBOX 360 Emulation feature? We’ll see in few months.

Many observers don’t talk about it, however there is probably a reason behind that Microsoft’s worker announcement. The company from Redmond have sold clearly less XBOX One consoles than their biggest competitor — Sony with PS4. Additionally, some sources say that the market is getting saturated with XBOX One.

XBOX 360 emulation feature could increase the market demand of XBOX One consoles. We will see.
