The Fourth Wall

Most shows today break through the fourth wall. The fourth wall being the audience and characters in the TV show can interact with them.

The fourth wall started out subtly. Magnum P.I. turning to the camera and smiling. Then, “The Office” took it to a new level, interviewing and following characters throughout the show.

I do wonder in 20 years, will this genre of sticoms look dated, the way laugh track sitcoms do today?
