Value is the importance and usefulness of something, this definition is according to the Oxford dictionary. values are always there to help us make productive decisions, these decisions are the reflection of our values and beliefs.
My reflection on Andela EPIC values
The word EPIC in this instance differs from the literal meaning of the word itself but it is a summarized version of Excellence, Passion, Integrity and Collaboration. These are the Andela’s core values that are expected of their developer to possess. let me buttress on the values one after the order to give more insights into each meaning.
E- Excellence
Excellent mentality produces excellent thoughts, and excellent thoughts produce excellent actions such as taking initiative, planning before acting, managing and resolving conflicts e.t.c. to constantly improve on oneself and believing that nothing is impossible are the features a person with excellence value should possess. At Andela, this is been emphasized because of the importance and the effect the value has on personal development and improvement.
P-Passion
Passion is the fire from within which motivates when confronted with obstacles or challenges. setbacks are inevitable but with passion, nothing can or will stop you from achieving your dreams. possessing this great value will keep you motivated even in difficult times or situation.
I-Integrity
Integrity means to remain honest and true to oneself. it is a two-way responsibility, as others hold you accountable, you should hold yourself and others accountable as well. acting with integrity means that one as to be authentic, be reflective of the value one possess, one has to be very sincere and kind.
C-Collaboration
This happens to be my favourite of all the values stated above. The power of a team cannot be compared to an individual, a team tends to achieve more and deliver results even faster because of the collaboration effect. This is a must-have value one must possess to attain excellence and at Andela, that they incorporate and encourage.
