The Wayne State University Warrior football team remains winless in GLIAC play after 6th straight loss to Michigan Tech University Oct. 13.

In the previous week, the Wayne State football team lost to #34 ranked Davenport at home 14–37. They played Michigan Tech, a team very similar to themselves because of their respective records, but came up short in a 20–23 loss at Michigan Tech’s home field.

Redshirt Junior defensive end, Brady Beedon, discussed that it is easy to see both the frustration and optimism that encapsulates this team.

“We have a lot of talent on this team and can compete with anyone on our schedule and will show that down the stretch,” he said. This helps them to believe they can come out and win on any given day.

The Warriors played a nationally ranked Davenport team in the week prior to competing against Michigan Tech on Saturday. It gave them confidence heading into a game against a tough opponent like Michigan Tech.

Both Wayne State and Michigan Tech have top 10 strength of schedules in Division II football and that has affected both of their seasons negatively.

Wayne State looked to bounce back against Michigan Tech but came up short after traveling 11 hours on the bus to the upper peninsula. This created difficulties of its own for this week’s game and Coach Winters’ players.

Sophomore offensive lineman Lane Potter, emphasized the importance of the offensive line.

“We didn’t have a bad performance by any means, but there is always room for improvement.” he said, “We look to make the necessary adjustments to help lead this team to a victory this week.”

After a long bus ride, the Warriors were able to jump out to a good start against Michigan Tech, taking an early 3–0 lead after a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter by graduate student Paul Graham.

Wayne State was able to extend their lead to 10–3 in the second quarter after a 17-yard touchdown reception by Junior Wide Receiver Darece Roberson, Jr. thrown by Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Jake AmRhein.

After scoring plays by both teams in the third quarter Wayne State entered the fourth quarter down 17–13, waiting to score again.

After a field goal by Michigan Tech, Wayne State ran the ball in the end zone for a game tying touchdown, tying the score to 20–20.

After a late field goal kick by Michigan Tech, the final result was a loss of 23–20. Wayne State still remains winless in GLIAC conference play with an 0–4 record and drops their 6th straight game of this season. This puts their overall record at 1–6 on the season.
