Day 59: Åland Islands

Had a dream that Mum & Dad were serial killers and were working through the family without anyone finding out. It woke me up and it took a while to realise I didn’t need to feel upset and hurt! Reminded me or a dream I had as a kid where John killed gran while we were all on a boat and planned to move onto other relatives. It would be interesting to understand why I had these dreams and what they mean.
Got up at 9.30ish and showered. Set smoke alarm off when I got out coz of steam and woke Mats up. Went off for day at 10.30ish? Tourist info about ferries then to ferry offices to buy cheapest ticket. Visited supermarket and was shocked by prices! Spent half an hour trying to decide what to get and settled for a danish and a pack of cheesy biscuits. Went to tourist office to see if they had internet but had to pay so went to library and accepted Couch Surfing offer. Went to different supermarket and bought a baguette and pate and peanut butter. Cycled out which was a really nice route. Only about 10km but islands and views were stunning. Absolutely idyllic and makes me want to own a boat! Stopped at little cafe after exploring for a while. Sat there for about 2 hours reading, listening to music and writing diary. Spoke to mum for a long time on the phone. Tried chatting to girl working there but not much to talk about. Cycled back to town and bought Åland pancakes which are traditionally made with porridge. This one was served with plum jam and cream and I couldn’t work out the spice in the pancake — thought it was lavender but it was cardamom! Headed back to flat and then went swimming with Mats and a friend. Quite cold and a bit awkward seeing as they didn’t really talk all that much and I kept chatting and making conversations! Strange to go in a car again! Got ice cream and then went back and watched top gear. Used net for a while and Mats cooked. Tried some locally made mustards. Watched another episode of top gear and used CouchSurfing and looked for Estonia info. Went to bed about 1ish.
