I started listening somewhat skeptically. I was torn between no, not this sooooooong! and the fact that we share a huge overlap in musical tastes. This is a very special song to me, so it was with trepidation that I clicked the first one.
Clayhill’s version seriously made my hair try to stand on end. So good and, while different, it captured so much of the original in its earnestness. I know this one had to settle with you a bit, but it was very quick to get me. It’s favorited with gusto.
I agree with you about Zuni. Wow. What a refreshingly honest voice. I heard a target commercial a while back with a BEATLES song being used (Hello Good Buy, to my absolute horror) covered by this wispy affected heard-it-a-thousand-times-by-better-singers-and-they-sucked-too-why-are-you-trying-so-hard-to-not-be-original voice. It angered me.
Being a bit of a ukulele player/enthusiast myself, I really enjoyed and appreciated the crazy scope of Sinfonico Honolulu’s cover. It might not be something that goes on my driving playlist, but it’s something that I’d have been a bit poorer for not having heard.
I just realized how many of these you picked, so I’m going to end this here and continue listening instead of composing a novel here :)
Awesome mix, Bonnie.
