Three Tips for Better Travel Photography from National Geographic

Formerly of Nashville, marketing professional Heidi Jewell now works in the Denver area. The marketing professional especially loves travel photography.

Whether you are taking photographs for a travel blog or just to capture your own memories, consider the following travel photography tips from the experts at National Geographic.

- Focus on the traits that make a destination unique. Ask yourself why it is that you chose a particular destination and what that destination offers. This will make it easier to identify and capture the ambiance of a given location.

- Explore. You will need to get a sense of the spirit of life in a new place before you find the best opportunities for photography. Get up early and hit the streets before other tourists. Wander around and seek out places where locals congregate.

- Put the time into your photography. It is easy to get busy with tours, scheduled events, and a wealth of fun activities while on vacation. Do not hesitate to deviate from an itinerary when the right opportunity presents itself.
