Thanks for sharing your experience, even though it isn’t a victory post, or, especially because it isn’t a victory post.

I completed my first triathlon a few weeks ago and mine was a similar story. I was feeling beat down mentally within the first 10 minutes of the swim as I struggled to get past the huge breaks, got kicked in the face, and ended up swimming a few hundred extra meters because of the thick fog along with the heavy current.

“Globally good, locally shitty” is how I felt by the end of my race as well. I considered dosing on edibles for the Tri, as I’ve done in my long runs/training and for a half marathon last spring. But a long standing fear of open water, and the fact that this was my first triathlon, made me reconsider, and I’m glad I did. Maybe next time.
