Vegan Athlete Experiment — Day 1

Today marks the first day embarking on this journey, so what I will cover is what I did today, how I feel so far, and what my plans are moving forward

Grocery Shopping & Meal Prepping

Today I did my grocery shopping and a little bit of meal prepping for the days ahead.

The first thing that I noticed, which I did not want to prove to be true, was that I was going to spend way more money than I wanted too.

Maybe because I don’t really know what I’m doing, maybe because I don’t really know where to look, but the bottom line is, for me personally — I spent too much — something that I definitely look to improve over time… All in all I spent $103.68

I also want to point out that I’m not a huge fan of cooking, but because I’m committed to completing this experiment and trying to have this thing workout out, I spent a lot of time today preparing food to eat today (Which I already ate — and it was really good too) as well as some food that I will eat days into the future. There’s actually some more meal prepping that I will do tomorrow; my learning curve for this process seems like it may be steep. Nonetheless, here’s some of what I’ve prepared today

I made curry broccoli, a big ass salad that I can eat over the next 3 days, some rice and a bunch of sweet potatoes.

This has sweet butter lettuce, raw zucchini, red bell pepper, black beans, and my favorite vegetable — raw cauliflower… I like to mix this salad with rice to make it more hearty and fiiling

How I’m feeling

I actually feel pretty good so far, what I ate was pretty satiating, I am probably going to have some snacks later on though (Either some fruits or raw nuts, or even a combination of the two). I did some pull up training this morning and my forearms were on fire; in a weird way I kind of liked it, because it reminded me of all the times before I trained hard and attained goals that I couldn’t even fathom starting out

Plans Going Forward

I’m going to watch some more vegan meal prep videos on YouTube and play around with some recipes tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is the day where my experiment really gets put to the test because tomorrow I go back to work, so I have to make sure that I bring enough food with me and that I can stay clear of the temptations of junk food.

Tomorrow is also a Sunday, and on Sundays I take a break from my workout regiment, but I’ll be back on that starting Monday.

Lastly, I want to say that, I am writing this on a Saturday night. Normally I would be on my way out to party right now, so I can tell that I’m serious about this, but I don’t want my life to be consumed by this documentation process. In a way this is teaching me to be more disciplined and to stop wasting time doing frivolous things like messing around on social media so that I could get things like my meal prepping and getting this article done, so that I can spend time doing things that I want — like going out on a Saturday night.

Day 2 tomorrow…
