VR Will Break Museums

Early in the article you write that “the objects are a physical link with our past” and I think this link needs the real thing — not its representation, as perfect as it may be in VR, but its presence. There are many uses for VR, but museums will be safe from being replaced by it for as long as this cultural mechanism, originated from holy relics and turned into a secular practice two hundred years ago, still has value to our society. All of the mediated representations of something, descriptions, pictures, videos and VR, will only heighten the allure of the original thing in its exclusive physicality in the museum display case. And to get that, you need to be there for real.
