There is a place for basic income as a short-term solution.

The proposal guarantees socially beneficial activity – not jobs in the traditional sense. This is not a scheme to create nonsense jobs.

Do you honestly think that there is no worthwhile social activity beyond what is currently rewarded in the labour market? The economic reward is often misaligned with social value and many beneficial activities are not paid at all.

As for the value of work I think that this is just entrenched in society and this won’t change.
