It’s certainly very worrying when this type of regressive thinking starts creeping into government policy. It often comes under the heading of something that sounds wonderful too. In Australia we have the Human Rights Commission — preoccupied with cases under 18C a racial vilification act — taking ridiculous cases to court for nothing more than the hurt feelings of someone looking for a handout. Then we have the ‘Safe’ Schools program, supposedly an anti-bullying program that smuggles in all sorts of anti-science rubbish in with some things that are probably good. So if you then criticise it you get “so you’re for bullying are you?” And so few people I know have even bothered to drill down into the actual program! The headline is enough for them and yet they’re sending their kids into these schools. It’s fucking nuts.
