Absent Minded Doofus

I telecommute one day each week. Thursday.

Yesterday I was looking at my work schedule and saw that my boss has a vacation day scheduled for Friday. This morning, a Thursday, I was working from home and someone updated an email thread asking my boss a question. Why are you asking him, I thought, he’s on vacation today. I was indignant. Like, do your due diligence, check someone’s schedule before you ask a question.

Half an hour later it hit me.

I’m working from home… that means it’s Thursday… not Friday. DAMN IT! I somehow convinced myself that it was Friday. I was thinking of things to do on Saturday as if it was tomorrow. Then I had the nerve to get all snooty about someone else when I was the one who was just stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.

Today isn’t Friday. Tomorrow isn’t Saturday. I still have to go to work tomorrow. DAMN IT! I was soooooo looking forward to the weekend.

I promised myself I was going to play my guitar this morning before work. Guess what I didn’t do.

We still have not decided what we want to do when we go to Washington. We might go to a couple of Art museums. Who knows. It’s kinda liberating knowing that we don’t have to do any of the standard touristy things this time. It makes it seems like we have more opportunities than we had on our previous trips.

The next question we need to ask is, what do we drive? It’s a 450 mile (or so) drive from the Merrimack Valley down to our Nation’s capital. We have two cars and I know they’d both make it without issue, but maybe we should rent a car and spare our cars the stress. Using our cars increases wear and tear, but using a rental car increases cost. We’re on the fence… unless we can get a Trans Am that lets us make believe we’re in a Smokey and the Bandit flick. That’d be cool.

Can I just say publicly that I can’t wait for Super Troopers 2 to come out? I haven’t seen the new Star Trek yet (Jen, this weekend?) and I haven’t seen the new Ghostbusters yet, and there are probably half a dozen other movies I want to see that I haven’t seen yet, but I just keep watching Broken Lizard movies. I’ve even been listening to the Chewin’ It podcast regularly too. I just really want to see some new highway hi-jinx from the Super Troopers gang. It can’t get here soon enough.

I can’t decide if the new Jeff Beck record is GREAT or not. I haven’t listened enough. I can say that it’s weird to hear him playing in a full rock band situation, complete with a lead vocalist and everything. I can also say that as far as playing the guitar is concerned, he’s still got it. What ever “it” is that makes him rank among the greatest guitarists ever, he still has “it”. The new record is called Loud Hailer. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.

Has this post been random enough for you? I was going to add something about Donald Trump, but the thought of him made me vomit all over my desk. Maybe next time.
