You read that correctly 😉

Instead of treating your body like an old sock this year, it’s time to embrace a self care routine and get your act together. There’s no easier way to do that than weed. We get that you’re tired of hearing about how to take care of yourself or as the internet calls it, ‘self-care’. Maybe self care is new to you but last year was the peak year for the movement, with nearly one out of three articles shared on Facebook, Twitter and blogs telling us to ‘slow down’, skip work or take a bath to ease the toll of modern life on our bodies. #SelfCareSunday took on a life of its own thanks to Instagram when people began publicizing or dare I say competing for just how chill a Sunday could be. The hashtag is filled with ladies pampering themselves with elaborate bathing rituals, slathered in face masks with ingredients from far away lands and tubs surrounded by candles galore. But did any of those self care articles ever tell you to get high in the bathtub? Sadly no, so we felt it was time to do the world a service and write one.

Your endocannabinoid system in action

Why is cannabis perfect for self care? Turns out a very magical and complicated thing happens when we consume cannabinoids like CBD and THC, not only do they make us feel good but they supercharge our bodies ability to perform at its highest level and deliver support to each of our bodies twelve systems. Your body has this thing called an endocannabinoid system, a powerful highway that delivers support to all the bodies systems- digestive, reproductive, urinary, neurological, lympathic, respiratory, etc . Doctors did not discover the existence of our endocannibinoid system until the 80's and they still don’t fully understand how it works. However there is mounting medical evidence which proves that cannabinoids support the twelve vital processes our bodies need to run at their best, some in science are even proclaiming the endocannibinoid system to be our bodies thirteenth system. So while typical self care methods such as mindfulness and taking time to slow down are beneficial, they lack the science backed punch that cannabis provides. Don’t believe in the endocannibinoid system yet? Here’s 5 things you can do to treat yo self on a Sunday that your body will thank you for.

Cannabis Tea: Giving new meaning to High Tea

Curl up with a cup of cannabis tea and a good book and you’re in for the snuggliest sunday ever. Cannabis tea is an easy option to deliver some CBD or THC to your nervous system while enjoying a warming cuppa. If you don’t live in a recreational state that has cannabis tea for sale, a simple solution is adding a few drops of CBD tincture to your morning mug. CBD tinctures are legal in all fifty states and make a great pairing with tea. To make simply turn on the kettle and warm some milk of choice- full fat regular/nut/hemp or coconut milks work best, add a few drops of your chosen tincture and stir well. One of the best CBD tinctures is Lazarus Naturals, with discounts available for veterans and those of us with medical conditions. Our favorite THC tea brand is Kikoko but if you live in a non recreational state, feel free to follow Poesy & Kettle’s guide to the perfect cannabis tea.

Cannabis Yoga & Meditation

Exercise is hands down the healthiest and cheapest way to show our bodies love. Yoga has long been paired with cannabis in India due to its ability to promote body awareness, stress relief and calm the mind. California has been throwing cannabis yoga classes for years with varying levels of legality, but now that full legalization has occurred, dedicated cannabis yoga studios such as Higher Self Yoga, Ganja Yoga and Marijuasana have seen a surge in members. Devotees claim that cannabis transforms a normal yoga session into a hybrid of meditation and exercise, amplifing the mind body connection. If you’ve never done yoga or added cannabis into the mix, grab your mat and turn on Dee Desault’s free cannabis yoga video in the comfort of your living room. It’s a relaxing 30 minute introduction into a yoga ritual you’ll want to do every Sunday.

Welcome to heaven, seriously

Get a Bathtub Tray ASAP

What does a bathtub tray have to do with cannabis? Everything. If you enjoy watching a show, drinking tea/wine and smoking a joint at the same time, this baby should be #1 on your wishlist. I was gifted one of these last Christmas and it turns your bathtub into an oasis. Since the bathtub tray has entered my life I am able to treat myself to a spa like experience every Sunday. My vaporizer, which is normally in peril of falling into the water, is perfectly supported by said tray and I can lose hours in the tub to pampering, journaling and binge watching shows until I become a CBD infused prune. If a bath tray isn’t self care AF, we don’t know what is.

A bun, enjoying some nice foliage on her day off

Bonus: Anything you find relaxing + weed

There are no limits on what self care practices can be paired with cannabis. Journaling, nature walks, and infused baking are all great ways to spend a Sunday checking in with yourself and elevating your mood. Exploring your creativity with a writing session, some candles and a sativa dominant hybrid can make you feel refreshed and ready to tackle the week. For others its a CBD edible and a long hike in their local woods. Whatever activity raises your spirits and soothes your nervous system is self care enough for us.
