Happy to be perfectly imperfect.

Whoever said ‘perfect is boring’ is our hero

My recent tea date with a dear friend started off something like this.

Life feels like a race against time, I’m sprinting my way through it at the speed of Bolt, and I can’t even afford to take a minute to catch my breath let alone stop and smell the flowers. Before you know I’ll be 80 and I would have accomplished zero, zilch, nada. Cue panic attack.

Sounds familiar?

Wooh. Breath dear sister. Halt. Before even considering taking any of our advice know that we so get where you’re at. We’ve been there. Actually from time to time we’re still in that same moment of sheer panic, way more frequent that you all may think. So don’t even think that we’re going to act all tranquil, peaceful yogi warrior on you. We’re the real deal honey.

Let’s drill it down

Moments like these are more often than not triggered by a birthday milestone, a new bold wrinkle or it might even kick off after you meet a couple of friends who make it seem that they’re prancing through life calmly, collectively and ever so successfully. They have a perfect smile, shiny hair, beautiful new pumps and a rock on their finger which glares teasingly in your face. Yes, lovely ladies, know that even your composed perfect friends have their fair share of good, bad and manic days, moments when they too feel that they can’t keep up with the rest of the pack, and times when running away and living on a desert island sounds deliciously comforting.

When you’re feeling a flood of outrageous panic coming your way here’s a tried and tested one minute emergency plan which works superbly.

The One Minute Emergency Plan

#1 — Breath. Stay in the moment. Tune your energy to your space. Observe what’s happening around you. Look around you and enjoy the now. Switch on your beginners mind, and become familiar with your presence.

#2 — Think of one of your latest accomplishment or a recent win. You sure rock girl. You’ve got this

#3 — Smile. It’s the perception vs reality game playing in your head. Hilarious. It’s incredible what a worldclass story teller you are….when it comes to judging other people you give them way to much credit, on the contrary you don’t give yourself enough. Note taken.

#4 — Remember what you were panicking about? All gone.

One more step

#5 — Buy yourself something nice

Yes lovely, treat yourself, it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, it could be a new nail-polish, a magazine, bubble bath or your favourite box of chocolates. The point is reward yourself and make your brief shopping outing time for your to celebrate your authentic true self.

You’re unique, unlike any other being on this planet, of course you have your flaws but hey, whoever said ‘perfect was boring’ is a hero in your books and in ours too.
