Members of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus, 80 African American Leaders Endorse Hillary for President
Endorsers Highlight Hillary’s Commitment to Break Down Barriers and Build Ladders of Opportunity for All

Tallahassee, FL — On the heels of victories in seven contests on Super Tuesday by Hillary Clinton, Hillary for Florida unveiled the endorsement of nearly every member of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus and 80 African American elected officials and community leaders from across the state.

“Hillary Clinton is the leader who will always stand and fight for communities of color across Florida — and we are standing with her,” said Ed Narain, Chair of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus. “As president, she will end the school to prison pipeline, reform our broken criminal justice system, address gun violence, and make college affordable so that every student can get an education.”

“Hillary Clinton has been a courageous fighter for civil rights and those without a voice her entire life. Her first job after law school was with the Children’s Defense Fund, where she worked to separate young people incarcerated in adult jails,” said Arthenia Joyner, Florida State Senate Democratic Minority Leader. “As president, she will stay that course — protecting voting rights, fixing our broken criminal justice system, and building on President Obama’s progress.”

“Through her decades of experience, Hillary Clinton has shown she’s a fighter for children and families, and as president, she will break down the barriers that hold neglected communities in Florida back,” said State Representative Mia Jones, the highest ranking African American elected official in the Florida State House. “She is the only candidate who will build on President Obama’s progress — from protecting the Affordable Care Act to continuing the fight against gun violence.”

“Rural communities across Florida face too many economic, education, and healthcare disparities, and we need a leader who will always fight for us,” said Brenda Holt, Gadsden County Commission Chairwoman. “Hillary Clinton has worked on these issues her entire life and is working to expand opportunity, affordable child care, and good-paying jobs for all Florida families.”

Hillary Clinton believes we need to break down all the barriers that hold Americans back and build ladders of opportunity for all our people — and she has laid out a detailed agenda to get this done. Clinton believes we need to focus on removing obstacles that keep wages down and make it harder for people — especially young people — to find good-paying jobs. We also have to break down barriers of bigotry like the systemic racism that holds back communities of color. In 2016, it is outrageous that so many African-American families live in pockets of extreme poverty and that so many families of color with good credit cannot get a mortgage.
