100 Stories: Elizabeth Hartley & Susan Goldstein

Susan and Elizabeth have dedicated their lives to teaching children in North Carolina. They understand that education helps expand opportunities for all North Carolinians.

Susan is working to elect Hillary because she knows Hillary will support teachers and be an inspiration to the next generation. Elizabeth, a music teacher, wants to elect leaders who are inclusive. She joined our team as a volunteer because she knows Democrats will fight to protect public education and health care.

Susan: One of the reasons I will definitely be voting for Hillary is because I am a retired teacher. As a retired teacher, and a mother, and a grandmother, education is very important to me. I am very concerned about the legacy that we will leave for our children and grandchildren. To me, Hillary Clinton is the only one, as a very intelligent woman, who will set a good example for the future generations.

Elizabeth: For me as a teacher, I want to make sure that we are voting for people who believe in public education and who believe in the future of my kids. People who are going to fight for my kids and protect their health care. People who create a culture of acceptance and tolerance for my students who are growing up and who are going to be leading the next generation.

I’ve only lived in Raleigh since January, and so it is great to get out into the community and talk to people. When you ask people if they are registered to vote they get really excited whether they are or they aren’t. You have a lot of people that thank you for being out here and thank you for doing what you are doing. So even if it is hot or it’s raining there are other people who believe the same things and people in the community who are invested in what you are doing as well.

This election means a lot to me. This is the first big election that I have been a real adult for. Previously, I’ve been in college or graduate school. Now that I have time over the summer to help, it seemed like the right time to get involved. I’m here to help people out. And everybody else should volunteer too because it’s fun, and there are lots of people who believe the same things, who are out here doing the good work all the way to November.
