There’s no question that Hillary Clinton has impacted the lives of women and children. Throughout her whole career, she has focused on healthcare, equal pay and equal rights for women. We spoke with women in Pennsylvania to learn more about why they are are standing with Hillary Clinton in this election.

Blondell Reynolds-Brown, Philadelphia City Councilwoman, Majority Whip

“Hillary’s a mother. I’m a mother. Hillary started her career being an advocate and champion for children, when she could have been a corporate lawyer. I started my career as an elementary school teacher and connected with her when she was serving on the board of the Children’s Defense Fund, long before she ever thought that she wanted to represent children and families in a more magnificent way. I’m struck by women who are exceptionally talented and bright in their area of expertise, and then choose to do public service.”

Katie Blume, Executive Director, Center County Democrats

“I’ve always been a Hillary supporter. I’m a young female who grew up during President Clinton’s administration. He spoke at Penn State and it was amazing. Also, I remember when Hillary Clinton attended the Beijing Conference in 1996 and said, “Women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights.”

I went to college in New York and was a member of the College Democrats he came to my alma mater and I sat on the stage 10 feet away from her — it was an amazing experience. That was 16 years ago that she was already talking about making college more affordable — that’s always been something she believes in.”

Helen Gym, Philadelphia City Councilwoman

“I’m supporting Hillary Clinton because of her incredible ability to span a large swath of time, to look at politics as an evolutionary stage of development. I’m also supporting Hillary Clinton because I believe in the Democratic Party. This year, we were able to pass the most progressive platform that this country has seen in decades. The platform includes issues that people have been fighting for in communities for a long time, such as $15 an hour minimum wage, and fighting a way to better regulate the influence of corporate money.

We need to take a look at what’s happening with our communities, to talk about public education in a meaningful way, not just through test scores and privatization. So we’re looking at an opportunity to see a Democratic Party that has truly evolved and a candidate who also has evolved over time and who’s going to carry us into a new generation and I’m very hopeful about that.”

Marie Claire Rose, NE Philadelphia Organizing Fellow

“I love Hillary for continuing the progress Obama has made, for her qualifications, and also for her fight to achieve equal pay for women. She’s also going to continue the fight for universal, high quality, affordable health care. I believe she’s extremely qualified. She’s always been for the people. Even when she was a young girl, she was babysitting for migrant workers’ children! That’s not easy. She’s worked for the Children’s Defense Fund, where she promoted educational development and helped educate mothers about the importance of education.”

Khine Nhz, Emmaus, PA

“I was born and raised in Burma and have never been prouder to be a naturalized US citizen so that I can vote for Hillary Clinton this year. I was so lucky to have a chance to meet her in 2009 at University of Tokyo’s Town Hall. She promised me and millions of Burmese that she would work hard on alternatives to economic sanctions, have an open dialogue between the opposition and the then junta and for a democratic transition in Burma. And she delivered!

Burma has elected the first democratic government lead by Hillary’s good friend and Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. I believe in her and so do millions of immigrants in this country. If she isn’t elected as our President in November, I would never feel safe for my son, a Burmese-American. Count me in. ‪#‎ImWithHer‬ since 2008 and all the way!”

Jessica Rothchild, Board President Equality Pennsylvania, Scranton

“We’re always looking towards the candidate that is going to do the most for the LGBT community and in this election, we knew from the beginning that Hillary Clinton was going to be that person. We made an endorsement of her early on in the primaries to show our support for the candidate.

I’ve been a supporter of Hillary Clinton from the beginning and have been helping to volunteer or do whatever I can for the campaign. This is a really important election. I’ve never seen anything like it and I don’t know that we will again.I t’s important for people to get involved because it’s going to affect our lives. President Obama has done an amazing job over the past eight years, especially with regards to the LGBT community. We need to make sure that Hillary Clinton can continue his work within the LGBT community.”

Kathy Bell, Philadelphia

“I have been waiting all my life to vote for a woman for president and I’m so thrilled that Hillary is the one that I get to vote for.

I am voting for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman of experience, she is a woman of knowledge, and she is a woman of wisdom.I believe that she provides the best opportunity for us to have a future for everybody. Too often in our history people have not had equal opportunities and I think she is the best candidate to make that happen.”

Norma McCuen and Angela Gialloreto, Pittsburgh

Norma: “Hillary is so intelligent and she supports all different kinds of women. She supports veterans so just have to go with Hillary.”

Angela: “I just had my 87th birthday, and I’m here to go door knocking and get the votes for our first lady. I have found her to be a very compassionate, a very caring, but a tough individual and that’s what I feel she’s going to do with this country. She’s not going to just sit in the big chair in the oval office and say she’s president. She’s going to do her job for every citizen in the United States.”
