I recently read a piece called “Who Gets to Wear a Cheongsam?” by Gina Mei. In the piece Mei talks about the time she was accused of cultural appropriation for wearing a cheongsam, a traditional Chinese dress. Mei explained what happened both in her article on Racked and in an NPR podcast:
