In the ever-evolving landscape of manufacturing where over 4M robots already help streamline production, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is setting a new standard for driving efficiency and productivity through automation. In a significant move to advance automation and innovation in the manufacturing industry, we are excited to announce our participation in the seed round of Xaba, a Toronto-based company pioneering AI-driven manufacturing solutions. This investment, led by by BDC Capital’s Deep Tech Venture Fund and supported by Hitachi Ventures and existing investor Hazelview Ventures, marks a leap towards innovative and automated manufacturing processes through cognitive robotics.

While initially targeting high precision robotic automation, we believe Xaba’s technology has the potential to disrupt traditional manufacturing paradigms, paving the way for a new era of intelligent automation. As Xaba’s technology continues to mature, we are confident that it will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of manufacturing and driving sustainable processes across industries.

Why Xaba?

Cost of rework and scrap rates play an important role in manufacturing as they have a direct impact on the bottom line. Xaba’s groundbreaking proprietary software, xCognition, harnesses the power of AI to augment industrial robots and cobots with synthetic cognition, enabling them to self-generate programs, adapt to dynamic environments, and optimize their performance in high precision activities such as welding and drilling. This remarkable innovation addresses the significant challenges of traditional robotics programming, which often requires extensive coding and manual intervention, limiting the scalability and adaptability of robotic systems. Moreover, xCognition’s ability to model the elasto-mechanical-dynamic behavior of robots/cobots and workpieces ensures unparalleled accuracy, consistency, and throughput in manufacturing processes.

With xCognition, Xaba is revolutionizing the way robots are deployed and operated. By automating the programming process and leveraging AI insights, xCognition eliminates the need for constant human supervision, reducing errors, downtime, and the overall cost of robotics deployments. This breakthrough technology not only enhances the efficiency of manufacturing processes but also opens up new possibilities for seamless human-robot collaboration, driving innovation and productivity to new heights. The platforms also eliminate the need for constant human supervision, reprogramming, and waste — factors that significantly impact the return on investment of manufacturing process.

Xaba’s technology has already shown impressive results, partnering with Lockheed Martin and Rolleri Robotic to demonstrate 10x improvements in absolute positioning and trajectory accuracy with 5x improvements in relative positioning and trajectory accuracy in cobots using Xaba’s manufacturing platforms. These partnerships further validate the potential of Xaba’s solutions to drastically improve the overall performance of robots in various manufacturing sectors.

Our investment in Xaba is a testament to the company’s vision and the immense potential of its AI-powered solutions. We believe that Xaba’s solutions have the power to revolutionize the manufacturing industry, making robotics more accessible, adaptable, and intelligent.
