14th & Washington a perfect location for an Apple Store

Earlier this year — the old bank building uptown at 1400 Washington was sold to a high-end Real Estate company Thor Equities. The fledgling local fish wrap had to high-tail it out of Hoboken to cut costs.

When the building was put on the market last fall — it listed for $5.8 million dollars. Not sure what Thor paid for it — but a costly piece of property, regardless of how “iconic” it is or not.

Part of Thor Equities business is buying and selling premium retail spaces. They also now do residential as well — as part of their $10 billion dollar portfolio.

We think would be a perfect fit for an Apple Store.

While they list luxury clients like Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, and Chanel (hint: if they can afford properties like that — their profit margin is absurd… and you should probably avoid such products…), Apple was not one of them. Would it be a first for Thor Equities?

I think it would be stupid for a ultra-high-end luxury brand store to occupy that space, because while Hoboken does have some affluence, an Apple Store would be accessible to every single resident — including the low-income areas.

If not Apple, then maybe a competing Microsoft store would also do well there (similar clientele).

I found the photo Thor Equities used rather interesting, though. They Photoshopped all the junk out of the photo. Including trees and traffic lights. No one in their right mind would ever have any interest in the place otherwise!

What would work in this space?
