Madden 18 Coach Adjustments Preview

So with the announcement that Madden 18 is bringing back the coach adjustments feature that was seen back in the NCAA games from several years back, this is going to be my initial thoughts as to which will be the most impactful throughout the course of a game.

OFFENSE

Ball Carrier

  • Balanced — Ball carrier runs as he normally would
  • Conservative

→ → Pro: Decreased fumble chance

→ → Con: Decreased chance to break tackles

  • Aggressive

→ → Pro: Higher chance to break tackles

→ → Con: Higher chance to fumble

Blocking

  • Balanced — Blockers block as they normally would
  • Conservative

→ →Pro: Lower chance of getting a holding penalty

→ →Con: Quicker blockshed rate for defenders

  • Aggressive

→ →Pro: Hold blocks for longer period of time

→ →Con: Increased chance of being called for Holding

Deep Pass Catching

  • Balanced — Deep pass catching based on normal settings
  • Conservative

→ → Pros: Higher catch rate on deep pass attempts

→ → Cons: AI receivers will not attempt to make RAC catches

  • Aggressive

→ → Pros: AI receivers will always go for RAC attempts

→ → Cons: Decreased catch percentage

Intermediate Pass Catching

  • Balanced — Intermediate Pass Catching based on normal gameplay settings
  • Conservative

→ → Pros: Increased catch % since AI receivers will go for possession catches

→ →Cons: Decreased opportunities for RAC attempts

  • Aggressive

→ → Pros: AI receivers will attempt a RAC or Aggressive catch

→ → Pros: Lower catch % and increase chance of the pass being broken up

DEFENSE

  • You can now toggle auto flip on/off in the defensive adjustments section

Ball in the Air Defense

  • Balanced — The AI will react based on their “Play ball in air” trait
  • Swat Ball — The AI will go for the swat in two man catch situations
  • Play Ball — The AI will go for the ball in two man catch situations
  • Play Receiver — The AI will play the receiver in two man catch situations

Cornerback Matchups

  • Balanced — The matchups will be dictated by normal alignment
  • By Overall — The highest rated CB will matchup to the highest rated WR
  • By Speed — The fastest CB will matchup to the fastest WR
  • By Height — The tallest CB will matchup to the tallest WR
  • By Route Running — The highest rated man coverage CB will matchup to the highest rated route runner WR
  • By Depth Chart — The highest CB on your depth chart will matchup with the highest rated WR

Option Defense

  • Balanced — Will play the option based on the default gameplay mechanics
  • Conservative — Will play the QB on option plays
  • Aggressive — Will play the HB/Pitch Man on option plays

Pass Rush

  • Balanced — Defenders will rush based off of default gameplay settings
  • Conservative — Defenders will look to contain the QB inside the pocket as well as swat passes at the LOS at the expense of a worse pass rush
  • Aggressive — Defenders will attempt to jump the snap and get after the QB at the cost of more offsides penalties, less swats, and less containment

Strip Ball

  • Balanced — Ball strips based on default gameplay mechanics
  • Conservative — Your defenders will wrap up tackles more effectively but will not go for any strips
  • Aggressive — You will have a higher chance of getting a strip fumble at the expense of more broken tackles and facemask penalties

Tackling

  • Balanced — Tackling based on normal gameplay settings
  • Conservative — You will have a higher chance of making tackles but a higher chance of allowing your opponent to fall forward
  • Aggressive — You will have a higher chance of the AI connecting with a hitstick at the expense of missing more tackles
