From here, it’s only four miles to the sea; at about the 3 mile mark you climb up a small rise and there you catch your first glimpse of the distant waves. It is always a wonder and joy that moment, even in a rainy headwind.
A bike hire company around here, advertises itself as “cycle through paradise”; it‘s true.
Anyway, I just got back from my ride to the coast this morning and Corina’s parcel, all the way from Ireland, was waiting for me! The bits and pieces that will eventually make up Johnny Toes have arrived !
So I’ve opened it.
And I am absolutely baffled !!
This beautifully presented box , packed full of dowels, pieces of wood, stuffing, lengths of wire, implements, screw-fixes, ribbon, cloth, hair, is extremely impressive, but it makes little sense, at this stage. I can’t even imagine how Corina knew what on earth to pack. It looks REALLY complicated !!!
Well, I have a vague idea- it looks like you start by winding cloth, in a particular way around the top of a stick to make the head.
Then you do things with dowels and wire. Never mind the clay and clingfilm…
I notice a couple of places may need glueing; that’s going to be a challenge, as we can’t use glue here; my wife is so profoundly chemically sensitive. There must be an alternative way, I am sure we can figure something out.
It reminds me of web design, you know. When I set out to learn how to write HTML and CSS, the language that makes up webpages, it seemed impossible anyone could begin to make sense of the apparently random brackets and squiggles.
Now I revel in it.
So, yeah, if I can build a webpage: you are right, Johnny Toes, I can and will build you!!
Hang on brother.
