THE CLEAN CULTURE

FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE AT HONEYWELL FLOUR MILLS

At Honeywell Group, we are responsible for the production of consistently good quality products and we operate according to international best practices. Honeywell boasts of a dedicated workforce which ensures the smooth and efficient running of our ISO certified flour mills.

At Honeywell, we recognize that health is wealth. This explains our sincere concern about the health and wellness of all customers.

WHEAT PURIFICATION

We ensure that our wheat goes through a cleaning process which eventually culminates in the production of Semolina, Flour and the by-product, Bran.

Before sprinkling of water on wheat in a process called tempering, wheat is cleaned to remove dusts, impurities and foreign materials. After a resting period, the tempered wheat is now called conditioned wheat. All these are part of our integrated risk management — from raw materials procurement to production and distribution while strengthening safety measures.

As part of our cleaning process, we ensure any foreign agents and harmful objects in the raw material such as debris, metals, germs are eliminated. The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at our facilities.

PRE-SAMPLING, SAMPLING, & TESTING

Before the main consignment of wheat arrives at our plant, a sample does. The wheat received in advance undergoes analysis and if it conforms to our standard and is of excellent quality, the full consignment is then received. Sampling and analyses are also conducted on the grains during production. Sampling is conducted during every step in production and it only passes onto the next production stage when approval is received for the previous from quality control.

HONEYWELL’S SANITATION STANDARD

Before cleaning begins, all personnel involved in the clean-up process are mandated to wear appropriate protective clothing which includes footwear, face-shield and rubber gloves.

Some of the established cleaning procedures at Honeywell include:

· Ensuring all finished products get to the designated storage areas

· Removing or covering all packaging materials

· Cleaning-up debris on the floor

· Following proper lock-out procedure before equipment is disassembled as necessary

· Application of an approved cleaning solution which removes dust from equipment parts and surfaces

· Inspection of equipment parts and actioning further steps if necessary

· Equipment surfaces are sanitized with approved sanitizer solutions

· Equipment are reassembled and re-sanitized if necessary

At Honeywell, our health and sanitation regulations are tailored in line with the guidelines provided by NAFDAC as captured under NAFDAC’s Good Manufacturing Practice Guidelines For Pharmaceutical Products 2016. Our storage areas are built to allow for maintenance and cleaning. This in turn prevents contamination and minimizes deterioration. We also have secured storage where cleaning materials, chemicals and other hazardous substances are isolated.

Honeywell Flour Mills ensure food safety through the combination of a set of methods which include:

Sanitation and Cultural Methods: This refers to the general cleanliness, basic hygiene and sanitary conditions of the establishment. Our storage facilities are constructed for proper filing just as internal transportation is doing in the most hygienic of ways.

Physical Methods: Before being taken into storage, our wheat is cleaned up by a pre-cleaning system which consists of screening, aspiration and entolation.

Chemical Methods: In a bid to guarantee good health for consumers of our products, we fumigate only when necessary. We also pay attention to application limits during fumigation.

* As you continue to buy our products, we remain committed to producing safe and wholesome Flour and Wheat-based products under the best hygiene practices, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
