Trim Your Cancer Risk with These Easy Activities

While there are many things you can do to help decrease your cancer risk, being physically active is one of the most important actions you can take to help guard against many forms of cancer. Despite the belief that genes are largely to blame, a recent study found that 9 out of 10 cancers are due to lifestyle choices. Today, one in five cancer deaths is caused by obesity, and researchers believe it could replace smoking as the leading cause of the disease. This is why at the Hope4Cancer® Institute in Tijuana we provide a sophisticated whole body cancer treatment program, which not only treats the cancer, but the underlying conditions that stimulate the growth.

So, what types of activity should you do? The short answer is that any type of activity is good. Even a few simple steps can make a big difference, and you can always increase the amount of physical activity as you go along. Ideally, you should aim for 30 minutes or more of moderate (or vigorous) activity a day. The good news is that there are plenty of easy ways to build activity into your daily routine. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

· Use the stairs rather than the elevator

· Bike or walk to your destination

· Get off the bus a few stops early and walk to your final destination

· Cut the grass or rake the leaves rather than using a device or hiring a professional

· Walk during your lunch break

· Park a little farther from your office

· Do housecleaning (Scrub the bathroom, vacuum every room)

· Wash your car

· Walk the dog (or your neighbor’s or a friend’s)

· Do gardening

· Join a sports team

· Join a dance or fitness class, such as Zumba

· Go dancing

· Use a stationary bike, walk in place, or do sit-ups while watching TV

The more physical activity you participate in each day, the more you are helping to decrease your risk of cancer.
