How to get Ethereum on Linea Testnet
Linea Testnet has finally gone live, and builders have started constructing. To carry out transactions on the Testnet, you need Linea Testnet Ethereum. Although Testnet ETH tokens do not possess any value, the transactions and network function similarly to the mainnet. Acquiring Linea Testnet Ethereum is free; however, due to the very recent launch of the Testnet, obtaining Testnet Ethereum has become increasingly challenging as faucets are being quickly depleted.
Receive Ethereum Directly to Linea Address (Option 1)
The first and easy way is to visit the following link to directly receive testnet ETH into your wallet.
https://www.infura.io/faucet/linea (0.5 ETH / day)
You need to sign up on the website first to receive Testnet Ethereum. Click on the “LOGIN AND RECEIVE ETH” button.
Then you will see a pop-up screen asking if you have an account with Infura. If you don’t have an account, you can select the first option and you will be directed to the signup page.
You can enter the required information and create a free account with Infura. After creating the account, don’t forget to confirm your email address by clicking on the confirmation button in the email you receive.
Once you have an account and Linea testnet enabled on your MetaMask, you can enter your Linea testnet wallet address in the bar and click on the “RECEIVE ETH” button. You will receive 0.5 ETH immediately.
If the Linea Testnet faucets are congested, you can consider the second option, which involves acquiring testnet Ethereum from the Goerli Testnet instead of trying to obtain it directly from Linea. You can then transfer the acquired Ethereum to the Linea Testnet using their native bridge.
Receiving Ethereum from Goerli Testnet (Option 2)
Goerli Testnet is a well-established testnet that has been in service for quite a long time. It is usually easier and faster to receive Ethereum on the Goerli Testnet. To receive Ethereum on the Goerli testnet and then transfer them to the Linea testnet, you need to have both the Goerli and Linea Testnets installed on your MetaMask wallet.
Simply visit https://chainlist.org adress and connect your wallet to the website. Search for the Goerli Testnet and Linea Testnet and click Add to MetaMask button.
Receive Goerli Testnet Ethereum
You can visit Goerli Faucet and get Goerli Ethereum for free. (You need at least 0.001 ETH Mainnet ETH in your wallet to be able to do this)
All you need is creating an account with Alchemy. Sign up with your Google Account on Alchemy.
After creation of an Alchemy account, you will be able to enter your ETH Address and Claim Goerli Ethereum. The transaction will be initiated instantly.
How to Bridge Goerli Testnet Ethereum to Linea Testnet
After receiving Goerli Testnet Ethereum, visit; https://bridge.goerli.linea.build/
Click on the blue Connect Wallet button on top right of the page. Connect to the bridge with Metamask. Make sure you select Goerli Testnet from Networks!
Enter the amount of Goerli Ethereum you would like to bridge to Linea Testnet and click Deposit.
