How To Place A Wheel Bet

The Wheel Bet is a very fun and practical way of making multiple exotic bets on a single ticket.
There are two versions of a wheel bet: full and partial.
These help horse players lay down a large number of combination bets involving one horse all at the same time, making it an efficient way to get the job done.
This type of wager is popular because of its ability to place winning combinations along with hedging combinations. Compared to standard exotics and straight bets, it is an expensive way to gamble but it is also one of the more insulated ways.

Full Wheel
A Full Wheel bet is when you select a specific horse to win, and then select each remaining horse to fill out the remainder of the top finishing positions.
An example is if you select a “$2 Exacta Wheel 2 and All”. In this instance you are betting multiple $2 exacta bets on the №2 horse to win and every other horse in the race to finish second behind him (remember that an exacta bet is a wager on the winner and runner-up in exact order).
In this same example, if you prefer to bet on the №2 horse to place second you can phrase the bet, “$2 Exacta Wheel All and 2”. By stating this, you are parlaying any other horse to win and the №2 horse to finish second.
Partial Wheel
A Partial Wheel bet is similar to a Full Wheel except that it excludes certain horses.
Basically, instead of betting on “all” you are betting on a select few.
The terminology for a partial wheel remains the same but it is a bit more involved since you have to state which horses you want to bet on. An example would be saying “$2 Exacta Wheel 1 and 4,5,6”. By doing this you have created three exacta bets — 1 and 4, 1 and 5, 1 and 6.
An additional example shows why partial wheel bets are so popular. For example, a “$2 Exacta Wheel 1,2 and 3,4,5” creates all possible combinations of 1 and 3, 1 and 4, 1and 5 as well as 2 and 3, 2 and 4, 2 and 5. This makes it very easy to generate multiple exotic bets without spending too much time at the window.
Wheel bets can be used with any form of exotic bet depending on the vendor. Typically you are able to use a wheel bet with exacta bets, trifecta bets and superfecta bets and occasionally you will also be able to box them as well.
