Thanks for sharing! It reminds me of this; I think few people seem to achieve an in-depth understanding of their pursuits. For instance the professor you describe seems not to have had a deep understanding of pedagogy that would allow him to see how different types of students respond differently to learning tasks. In your case it seemed that you needed on-the-job-training in skimming, sumerizing and synthesizing while absorbing the materials. In general I think pedagogy is a neglected subject.

In the case of start-ups, I have heard before that the field is commonly associated with “me too” thinking. If more founders — mentors had a wider vision more inovation might be possible.
