What would you do to make the world a better place to live?

How would you plan it out and implement it?

Hugh Mann Development is Multi-Media Communications Firm that produces content to encourage self-worth, support community involvement and advocates social justice by expounding on how these concepts will enhance the human experience and create a more cohesive society.

Hugh Mann Development has adopted the concepts of a socio-economic humanity initiative called Human Development (also the human development approach). The focus is creating and improving living conditions with the intention of advancing the human standard of living and well-being. It may be defined as the process of expanding human capabilities, providing greater choices, increasing freedom and the enforcement of human rights. Wikipedia expresses Human Development as “an alternative approach to single focus on economic growth and focused more on social justice, as a way of understanding progress.”

The human development philosophy is made up of six pillars:
1. Equality
2. Sustainability
3. Productivity
4. Empowerment
5. Cooperation
6. Security

Equality is a concept harder achieved than imagined. The thought that we all, no matter what race, color, creed, ethnic background, class or education level are equal is great in theory but almost impossible to attain. Equality is closely tied with the need to win and the “I’m better than you complex”. Perception governs the idea of inequality and we must relinquish that power over to education. We must not subscribe to the notion that everyone is alike instead we should endorse accepting what makes us different then defend against any disruption of progress gained.

There are four domains of sustainability as developed by the United Nations Global Compact Cities Programme — Economics, Ecology, Politics, and Culture. Each of these domains requires thoughtfulness in regard to the other and attention to the impact on the global standard of living. Resources may dwindle but jobs should not suffer. Businesses need to be profitable but not at the expense of clean water and air. Congressmen need to create laws that respect future generations. We the people must make politics work for us instead of against us. It makes absolutely no sense to work hard in order to build a life of abundance and leave a degrading chance of even average survival for the children we leave behind.

I do understand one of the greatest potencies of the human experience is attaining wealth. The desire to achieve greatness is strong within us. The economic definition of productivity is — the rate at which goods or services are produced especially output per unit of labor. Humans will use every minute in the day (or night) to move a little closer to the dream of affluence but, what if there are obstacles or roadblocks in your path? Are you alone in your effort to navigate a clear road to your destination or should you have help from those who have been down that road before?

The quote, “with great power comes great responsibility” has no official author but has been used for decades to empower listeners to understand they have a call of duty. The United Nations describes empowerment as “a democracy in which people themselves make the decisions about their lives”. Power should be used towards freedom for all, not to restrict those that do not have the same viewpoint as you. This should not be a “do as I say” society since that would be a disruption in the progress of equality. Instead, the decisions we make about the future of our society should be multifaceted, not divisive.

The rise of tyranny and atrocities facing mankind created the Allies of World War II. France, Great Britain, United States and the Soviet Union joined forces, defending the world from those who used their power against the powerless. Together they defeated one of the greatest evils the world has ever know. Although it may sound like a movie, their cooperation changed the fate of reality. Unified as a community to bring forth a future available to all, cooperation should be the goal for our society. Not because of the existence of bad but because it is the right thing to do.

Once we are able to attain freedom, to what extent should we go to protect it? The ability to defend our human rights are held under what jurisdiction? The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects our right to keep and bear arms. Yet, some of those that are empowered to protect us do not value our security. Should we raise up those arms to defend our constitutional rights or allow the empowered to dictate the limitations of those rights? Is there another way of protecting ourselves from oppression? Is the involvement in the political structure enough? No matter what questions you ask or what actions you are prepared to take the solution will always include “you”. The choice and sacrifice are yours.

Also, there are two main actions supporting these pillars:
1. Directly enhancing human abilities
2. Creating conditions for human development
