You said it, #1 is motivated. They have a common purpose, they’re united to achieve a goal they value. #2 doesn’t sound united; seeking to fulfill a vision. While more energy is required to unite larger teams, it isn’t impossible. The original Macintosh team, for example, had over 100 members. Yet they were kept focused and motivated to complete the Mac because it was a machine each of them wanted to own.
