TAXES! We all hate them, but we are constantly paying them; from our income, to property, to state & even SALES!!! But what are some of the most outlandish taxes that have come to be in the United States? Here are the 5 most ridiculous taxes that exist in the U.S.:
- No Tattoo for YOU!
In Arkansas there is a 6% tax on body modifications such as tattoos and piercings. Let’s just say, they’d like to maintain their reputation for being the “natural state.”
2. Bagel and Lox of TAX!
One of New York’s claims to fame are their amazing bagels! However, you may not know that the Empire State serves uncut bagels tax free while adding an 8-cent sales tax to any “altered” bagel. Altering refers to the many toppings one may place on a bagel or even just slicing it in half!
3. Healthy Eating?
Californians love to eat healthy! This is why you may be surprised to find out that in California there is a 33% tax when buying fresh fruit from a vending machine. So although your body may be rewarded by this choice, your pocket book will not…
4. Contradictions All Around
In Washington D.C., they can’t seem to make up their mind in terms of rewarding healthy choices or bad choices. They tax both sugary drinks and gym memberships at 5.75%.
5. Yoga Haters
Missouri must not agree that Yoga is good for both the body and the mind, because in this state, there is a 4% sales tax added to all yoga classes!
