The Five Worst Trades in American History

It’s been 300 days since President Obama announced the trade of five former leaders of the Taliban for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.
However, Sgt. Bergdahl was charged Wednesday with abandoning his post and misbehaving before the enemy during his time overseas. Looking back after 300 days, how did Obama’s trade pan out?
Let’s take a look at the worst five trades in American history.

- The Atlanta Falcons gave Brett Favre to the Green Bay Packers for a first round pick
I don’t care what pick they got. Trading away Brett Favre after his rookie season was the worst decision the Falcons could have made. Favre went on to throw for more passing yards than any other quarterback in NFL history.

- Dr. J sold to the 76ers for $3,000,000
That amount may not be chump change, but Julius Irving went on to be one of the most electrifying players in NBA history. This was a move the Nets regretted for the next twenty years.

- Scottie Pippen traded to Chicago Bulls for Olden Polynice
There’s a reason you’ve never heard of Olden. He didn’t do much in the NBA, but Pippen went on to win six championships with Michael Jordan. WOW.

- Babe Ruth sold to the Yankees for $100,000
This was arguably the worst deal in sports history. The Red Sox didn’t get over “The Curse of the Bambino” until finally winning the World Series in 2004, eighty-six years after Babe’s departure.

- Obama trades “Taliban Five” for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl
Bringing an American soldier home is vitally important, but not at the expense of countless other lives. Releasing five men that John McCain called, “the hardest of the hard-core” simply must not happen. These men were key commanders for an organization responsible for death and destruction on a truly epic scale. These men will likely re-enter the fight against freedom, if they have not already done so. Negotiating with terrorists is never permissible as the Commander in Chief. Weakness on his part endangers the nation. And to make matter worse, the man he traded for is likely a deserter.
This trade makes the Babe Ruth blunder look like nothing.
