There’s a tendency to think that people from a designing background are brilliant designers that design the newest innovation. However, the IDEO shopping cart video made me realize that user-centered designing can be done by anybody and people from various fields can contribute to the designing process. User-centered design is more focused on pinpointing a problem and catering a solution to the users. For example, in the IDEO shopping cart videos, the IDEO designers went out to conduct user research to find the common problems that shoppers have with their shopping carts. Common problems such as safety issues concerning the seats for toddlers and others came up. With all the problems documented, the designers would build a prototype shopping cart that can answer the most common problems. Designing is not always about creating a product that is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes but, more so about creating a product that can make every day lives more efficient.
