Entrepreneurship, IIPC and beyond
First step is to start.
We are living in the best of times. Innovation is at the core of everything, spreading its branches in every other field out there. Colleges, universities and educational institutions are updating their course framework, either by adding new courses in the curriculum or through industrial training. While courses, degrees and workshops are meant to be industry-centric, the technology demography is changing faster than ever. At the crux of it, entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship has become a generic terms these days. While there are wannabes, pretenders, risk takers and rebels; on the other spectrum are dreamers. People who have a view of how the world should be and they’ve taken it upon themselves to shape it likewise. This is for those dreamers, driven with passion and seemingly unrealistic goals.
Starting in college has its obvious benefits.
- Lesser risks, lesser responsibilities, more energy and higher rewards
What have you got to lose? You don’t own anything, you have few commitments, relative to the later phase of your life, and worst case scenario, you’d go back to doing what others are doing now, but with some experience, knowledge, wisdom and stories.
2. Network
You’ll meet people smarter than you, more driven than you, more resourceful than you and it in itself would be the rewards you won’t get anywhere else.
3. Resume
Technically, you’d have more experience on your hands than others around. Added to it your network and the knowledge that you’d have acquired, a win-win place to be at.
4. An opportunity to solve real-world problems
You can only learn so much in the classroom. The startup world is a great bridge between material taught and applied concepts.
“It is 100X harder than anything that happens in a classroom, but also 100X more valuable than any textbook lesson.”
5. Back-up
Even if you start a business in college and it fails, it’s a huge plus on your resume. Starting a business shows that you’re proactive, creative, and driven — just the type of employee successful companies are looking for. Startup experience while in college can put you on the fast track to leadership opportunities at another company if you decide you’re not ready to be a full-time entrepreneur and want to get some work experience under your belt first.
The Approach
Everyone has certain expectations from the college and for that matter themselves as individuals. The role of IIPC stands crystal hereby. The core fundamental lying in the internal development of a student from academic to technical aspects.
The exposure for a person is efficient if given in adequate proportions and is focused. For that we divide our approach in stacked levels.
These levels are not dependant internally and are an ideal calculation.
- Exposure through Courses
The start of any endeavor begins through learning and gaining knowledge to create a base for the journey ahead.
2. Exposure through internship possibilities
The theoretical learning always requires in life applications to give a structure to the base. Internships provide a stepping stone for the same.
3. Entrepreneurial Exposure
The Entrepreneurship ecosystem takes you to a completely different boat in the same ocean.
Where the learning structures are added up with ownership credibility.
So, how does IIPC help you with your endeavour?
- Resources
Internet access, spacious incubation rooms, basic infrastructure, and amenities.
Even if you don’t have a team or an idea to start with, you are welcome to share these resources and build on your technology stack.
It’s open 24/7 for members and for non-members, accessible anytime during college hours.
2. Network
Through us, you’d be part of a much bigger network. Somebody, somewhere must be doing what you’re trying to do and might help you with it. Hence, you’re never short on assistance, advice, second-opinions and most importantly, lessons.
With so many startups around, you’d sure be picked by one if they see the passion in you.
3. Mentorship
Along with the rich alumnus pool, we have good relationships with other communities in the circuit. One obvious advantage of this being a continuous stream of experience backed knowledge and mentorship it brings.
4. Shaping the edge
You are invited to other’s business meetings, you solve their software bugs, and they help you refine your products.
While others are sitting around in canteen, you are building your dream in your company’s cabin space.
While others are on their holidays, you have access to college’s incubation center 24x7.
While your fellows are running for attendance, you are running for investments.
While they call you their chum, you call them your customers.
This kind of culture is provided by IIPC.
In all fairness, entrepreneurship is hard. It’s not for everybody and it might not be the best thing for you. But if done correctly, this might result in the best college experience.
IIPC (Industry Institute Partnership Cell) is the E-Cell of Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology, Rajouri Garden.
The objective of the IIPC is to reduce the gap between industry expectations (practice) and academic offerings (theory) by direct involvement of industry to attain a symbiosis.
