Friends, may I ask for your assistance in one of my resolutions this year… developing a joint Bicycle and Scooter Safety Rodeo? Initially, I thought to do it on my own. Realistically, we need more brains to make this a success. Plus, it’s more fun with friends. It MUST be a community effort. Read more below to see how you can help.

For the past three years, I have posted a Series of New Year’s Resolutions with three key goals…

  • Be a better person
  • Spend more time with family and friends
  • Help 3–5 new businesses start/grow

So far, it has been going well. This coming year, I’d like to add a little something extra and help spread awareness for rider safety. For this year’s resolution, I’m making it a mission to help advocate for more safety awareness for cyclists and scooter riders alike. …

Back in May 2009 (when I created my Twitter Profile), I was just starting to build that personal/professional brand for myself. My professional career was really starting to build and I had just passed my 5th year at Rackspace. It was apparent that something memorable and clever was ‘needed’ to stand out from the crowd and make it easier for folks to remember my handle. But how/what?

“I know… friends have called me ‘Termite’ for a little over a decade; how about that?” Using that handle for everything from video games to live action roleplay roll-play (see: http://darkon.org/), the name seemed fun and easy at the time in small settings. But, as the expansiveness of the internet started to prove it difficult to keep a consistent theme across all services “Termite” would often already be taken. So, how to make it different? Back then, I don’t think people were using “theReal_name” handles yet either. Wanting to make things a little fun as well, I went with “IRTermite”… a little play on the cartoon I.R.Baboon. …

How could fate actually cause these tiny slivers of bleached dead tree make their way to our table with a message just for us? What are the chances, right? Well, I for one never really bought into it… until over this past holiday period.

My Dad wanted to plan a surprise for my Mom by having us show up for Christmas over 1600 miles from home. To up the ante, we were going to do it by driving and pulling a car hauler trailer. Why the trailer? Well, my Dad also wanted to give me his old tractor of 29 years! …

Back on May 22nd, I posted that I was starting to ride the VIA Metropolitan Transit bus more often. Every time I go to Geekdom and for future times I plan to go downtown, the bus will be my mode of transit. My business partner Drue Placette has joined me in this as of a few days ago. His ride is a much longer and involved trip. We want to see how this all works for the masses, how much we save in travel and parking expenses, and what the stress changes are.

So far for me, it has been hassle free for my short trips and a relief not to pay so much for parking. Of course, there is a bit of extra planning and monitoring involved, compared to just hopping in your car and going. But, it would appear Drue is already starting to see some pitfalls on his longer commute and access to stops. …
