GameStop Launches NFT Marketplace Triggering Metaboy Frenzy:
GameStop’s long-awaited NFT Marketplace is live — following May’s release of the GameStop wallet and a considerable amount of hype the GameStop marketplace has already gathered a number of die-hard fans and collectors, with users already flocking to the site.
The GameStop NFT marketplace is now open to the public for Beta testing and users can interact with the platform in a number of ways. You can connect your own digital asset wallet, then buy, sell and trade NFTs across the GameStop platform: in the future, GameStop plans to offer more features, including web3 gaming tools.
GameStop’s marketplace is currently home to more than 200 collections and over 50,000 individual digital tokens. Speaking in a statement, GameStop has said of the launch “GameStop has announced that it has launched its NFT marketplace to allow gamers, creators, collectors and other community members to buy, sell and trade NFTs. The Company’s NFT marketplace is a non-custodial, Ethereum Layer 2-based marketplace that enables parties to truly own their digital assets, which are represented and secured on the blockchain”.
The marketplace itself is strong — easily to navigate and users can interact with posted digital collectables in much the same way you would use OpenSea. Each NFT is furnished with details about the artist, mint date, and a display of info on the NFT’s traits. You are also able to easily view the relevant contract addresses, contract type, token ID and much more.
GameStop’s marketplace is already exploding with popularity amid hype from the launch. The real breakout star of GameStop’s launch has been Metaboy, a brand new 10k collection that has minted out in style, selling huge numbers and inspiring a trading frenzy for the GME exclusive collectable.
According to their team, Metaboy is a “10,000 piece collection that brings the love of gaming, pixelart and technology together.” The art is charming and punchy, each character is a humanoid Gameboy, with arms and legs, a face and a number of other wacky and interesting traits. Many of the Metaboys areA engaging in different activities, with the NFT’s background adding texture to the Metaboy’s traits and activity.
Some are golfing, running on other planets, trading stocks: there are surfer Metaboys and Nascar racing Metaboys — these gameboy style avatars are fantastic, and the pixel art style is very evocative of the nostalgia which is incredibly prevalent in pop culture.
Cute, smart and eye catching art plus insane GME hype has launched this collection into the stratosphere: they have traded well over $115,000 today alone, selling out in under five hours. This project is already holding a floor of over 350 ETH, giving the GME marketplace credence and credibility quickly — they are already building a reputation in the industry.
Ryan Cohen tweeted with defiance, “That left for dead retailer just launched something new 😳” emphasising the seismic revolution that GME has undergone since the start of the Covid pandemic and the trading revolution that inspired.
