How to install Powerline to pimp your BASH prompt (For Mac)

“Powerline is a statusline plugin for vim, and provides statuslines and prompts for several other applications, including zsh, bash, tmux, IPython, Awesome and Qtile.”

For all programmers, the terminal is a big deal, and you’ll spend a lot of time working with it. Why not customize it to your liking and make it look good? Here’s an example of how the prompt looks like with Powerline.

Not only it gives you a cooler prompt, it also helps you when working with your git repository. In this blog post, I will walk you through the process of installing powerline for your terminal bash prompt and vim.

Fonts

Powerline comes with 1 font in the font/ directory (PowerlineSymbols.otf). If you want to use different fonts for powerline, you can find them here. Just clone the repository to your system and double click to install each font.

Enable powerline for vim

That’s it!

Now, enjoy your brand new terminal.
