The Story of Rizwan Arshad & Why it will inspire many others

Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress President Mr. Rizwan Arshad ‘s elevation to Member of Legislative Council Karnataka is an excellent testimony of how Indian National Congress wide-opening doors to young talents who has no legacy and god-fathers.

A strong organization man,middle-path-ian, pro-consultative, in his mid-thirties, with a massive 18 years of disciplined activism in frontal organizations of Indian National Congress.

His father Mr. R Q Arshad is an advocate and mother Mrs. Shehnaz Arshad was a lecturer at Sheshadripuram college in Bangalore. With not much legacies to claim for, he has fought 18 years with proven-consistency to find his own space in the political spectrum. Political spectators see this as a clear signal of Generation Shift in Congress Leadership in Karnataka.

After he enrolled into Student’s Union of Indian National Congress (NSUI) in 1996, Rizwan could climbed up the ladder fast because of the transparency and meritocracy in the frontal organizations . He was soon elected as the secretary and later president of the St Philomena College in Mysore even as he pursued his BCom. After completing graduation and enrolling into the university, Rizwan moved to state NSUI and became the NSUI national secretary and was later absorbed into the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).

In 2010, he was made the IYC national secretary. In 2011, he defeated Priyank Kharge, son of Central Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, by a large margin to become the first elected State President for Karnataka Pradesh Youth Conress. He got relected as State President in 2014 with a much huge margin of 20,000 votes.
