Vision + Time = Success

Success is a moving target.

Success has many shades.

Success is often determined by what we do when everyone else is doing nothing.

There are only so many hours in the day, so we must be effective with the time we spend on the clock and creative with the time we have off the clock.

If you follow sports at all, you should have some concept of who football coach and sports icon Vince Lombardi is (its worth a Google). For those of you that don’t know Vince, if you mention coaching and success, Lombardi is at the top of the list (credentials). Lombardi was noted as saying, “The will to win is not nearly so important as the will to prepare to win.”

Have you ever said that you want to win?

Have you ever shared with friends about how good you could be at something? (This declaration is usually followed by, “If I only had the time …or the money …or this one tool.”)

Are you reading this now, thinking…

While the effectiveness of resolutions is arguable, there is value in setting goals. If you want to take yourself to the next level of what you are pursuing, make a plan for how you are going to use the hours that you have — make a plan for what you will do with the hours everyone else is wasting.

If you have a family that should come first in your time off the clock. Your values should always be God, guns, glory — wait, that’s a different article. Set yourself up for success to follow your dreams, whether you have 30 minutes a day or several hours, be intentional to execute that time with value.

Listen to Lombardi, hear the booming voice of an Italian born in Brooklyn as he encourages you to have, “The will to prepare to win!” If Vince doesn’t fire you up or you just need some additional encouragement, perhaps this motivational moment from Waterboy will inspire you — You Can Do It!

If success is a moving target, how will you train to hit it?

If success has many shades, what colors will you use to create your story?

If success is determined by what we do when everyone else is doing nothing, when are you going to get off your ass?
