Woody Allen Is A Secret Hidden In Plain Sight
The Hollywood Reporter
Woody Allen’s comfortability with expressing your condolences to a predatory man like Harvey Weinstein shows that society hasn’t come far in prioritizing victims over predators. He said he felt “sad” for him, and I’m sure he can feel his pain, seeing as though in 1992, his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow revealed in a the New York Times that he’d molested her when she was 7-years-old , promising to put her in one of his movies:
“What’s your favourite Woody Allen movie? Before you answer, you should know: when I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me. He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies.”
The case went to court and the presiding judge, Judge Wilk deemed Allen’s behavior toward Dylan Farrow as “grossly inappropriate and measures must be taken to protect her.” Babysitters were advised to never leave Dylan alone with Allen. Allen had gone to therapy prior to the case to deal with the inappropriate behavior toward his daughter. Dylan had emotional and psychological difficulty dealing with her traumatic experience, so much so that Judge Wilk’s did not believe he had a confident witness to put on the stand. Dylan’s accusations were coherent with three adults who were present the day of the attic incident. Case closed.
Mia Farrow, Ronan Farrow, Woody Allen and Dylan Farrow
Allen called the allegation ludicrous and his career went on, seemingly unscathed thus racking up many awards for years to come.
Ronan Farrrow, the biological child of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen has always stuck by his sister Dylan’s side and defended her in an article he had written for the Hollywood Reporter :
“I believe my sister. This was always true as a brother who trusted her, and, even at 5 years old, was troubled by our father’s strange behaviour around her: climbing into her bed in the middle of the night, forcing her to suck his thumb — behaviour that had prompted him to enter into therapy focused on his inappropriate conduct with children prior to the allegations.”
It is no coincidence that Ronan Farrow recently took upon himself as journalist to gather information about the sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein for the last 10 months, where he was met with threat of a lawsuit by Weinstein himself, and the refusal to publish his story by NBC.
Allen made headlines again after he married the daughter he helped raise with Mia Farrow, Soon-Yi. Mia and her ex-husband André Previn adopted Soon-Yi when she was roughly seven-years-old from South Korea. Mia gained full custody of Soon-Yi, began dating Allen and he helped raise her since she was 8. Allen admitted that he began his affair with Soon-Yi in the late 80s, there is a great possibility that Soon-Yi was under 18. Mia split from Allen in 1992 when she discovered pornographic photos of a then 20-year-old Soon-Yi in a 57-year-old Allen’s possession.
The foundation of Allen and Soon-Yi’s relationship has always been peculiar but even more so the way he speaks about her. In an NPR interview July of last year Allen’s revealed his idea of fatherhood has strange sexual undertones.
“I was paternal. She responded to someone paternal. I liked her youth and energy. She deferred to me, and I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision-making just as a gift and let her take charge of so many things. She flourished.”
He describes his union with Soon-Yi in such a way that tangles marriage and fatherhood. Decision-making privileges are often given to children by parents, not to wives by husbands. There’s a undercurrent of pedophilia in Allen’s idea of liking Soon-Yi’s youth and energy. We understand that there is an aspect of power that is within the action of pedophilia much like power is at the center of rape which is evident in his admission that he gave the job of decision making to her as a gift.
During an interview with Stephen Galloway for the Hollywood Reporter, Allen was asked “How has your wife, Soon- Yi changed you?”
His answer is baffling:
Oh, well, one of the great experiences of my life has been my wife. She had a very, very difficult upbringing in Korea: She was an orphan on the streets, living out of trash cans and starving as a 6-year-old. And she was picked up and put in an orphanage. And so I’ve been able to really make her life better. I provided her with enormous opportunities, and she has sparked to them. She’s educated herself and has tons of friends and children and got a college degree and went to graduate school, and she has traveled all over with me now. She’s very sophisticated and has been to all the great capitals of Europe. She has just become a different person. So the contributions I’ve made to her life have given me more pleasure than all my films.
Allen has taken on the position of a white savior, though he had nothing to do with Soon-Yi’s perceived salvation, as stated earlier, she was adopted by Mia Farrow and André Previn. The White Salvation complex also thrives on the idea of debt — that since Allen believes he’s made Farrow’s life better, she owes him. She is indebted to him for giving to her the silver spoon that she was not afforded at birth. With great storytellers come lies. It is mind-boggling that Allen believes this to be true, as if he found Soon-Yi ransacking trashcans for scraps on the streets of South Korea.
There’s is something very cynical about this relationship….let’s face it, Woody Allen is pedophile hiding in plain sight.
