Everyone that cites the 1000+ police shootings each year compares the two. Nobody’s going to march in the streets over the obvious criminals, but when it comes time to make a rhetorical point about the police shooting people, you’ll have no qualms counting them among the victims. It is much easier to convince people of your victimhood when you cite 266 black people killed by police last year instead of relying on the 3–4 whose names stand out.
