Steve Jobs: An incorrect ideology for wannapreneur?

The swiftly expanding tech industry takes Steve Jobs’ ideology as the biggest modus operandi when it comes to crafting their product. From the initial stage of planning to the final stage of execution and reaping the profits, everybody wants to do things perfectly and in a way the founder of Apple Inc. would have done.

Steve Jobs was, undoubtedly, an insanely creative and a genius who knew how to sell his product by creating confidentiality but at the same time maintaining the buzz about what to expect.

*Confidentiality*….That’s the blunder every wannapreneur commits.

Seriously! I have seen tons of creative guys afraid of talking about their idea because they are afraid that someone might copy it and become a godforsaken multi-millionare. Infact they are more obsessed with protecting their so called creative idea before they plan or even know what to do with it.

So how is it bad for a wannapreneur to be secretive about his idea?

Let us recall the words of Steve Jobs when he was fired and not associated with Apple (For the uninformed, this happened in 1995).

You know, one of the things that really hurt Apple was after John Sculley got affected by a very serious disease. The disease of presuming that a really great idea is 90 percent of the work. And if you tell people “Here’s this great idea I have!”, it is then that they can possibly work on it and make it happen. You have to trust your team with your idea and believe in their abilities and let go of the cynicism. Most people don’t do that and the problem with this is that there’s just a tremendous amount of craftsmanship between a great idea and a great product. This gap and the journey between the two is what essentially defines the value of your product in the end. Execution.

This is very important. It is crucial for every wannapreneur to understand that as you evolve your great idea, it changes and grows. The final product is never the same as the initially conceived idea because you learn a lot more as you get into the subtleties of it & in order to overcome the challenges or infact to understand the challenges you need to be open about idea.

Also, it is logical to say that the possibilities of hundreds of other people getting the same brainwave as you isn’t far-fetched. But what could make your ide stand out from the others’ is that you decided to execute it instead of figuring out that how you could protect your idea from the ‘poachers’. Unknowingly enough, you are also protecting it from becoming a reality. To take a concrete shape, it needs to be brought before the world.

As they say in startups:

99% of the work is execution, only 1% is the idea.

Believe me, the perks of being vocal about your idea are more than you think.
