Seems you are likely an American using their love of shorthand language. I had to look up what ‘spec fic’ was, never having heard of it before. Seems its short for speculative fiction. Actually it wasn’t, it was obliquely aimed at a ‘walk-in’. If you are not New Age then, to save you having to look it up, wikii defines it as “a new age concept of a person whose original soul has departed his or her body and has been replaced with a new soul, either temporarily or permanently.”

A more classic way of looking at it, whivh I prefer, is being reincarnated whilst still living. That may also also sound like fiction, except it is possible and does happen, even more than once!
